Good (Real) Food

I'm back from a lovely vacation in The Little Apple. Philosophical content will return shortly, but first I just wanted to share the wonderful news that broccoli can be made to taste good -- all you have to do is drizzle lemon juice over it. Who knew?

Pasta with chevre (goat's milk cheese) melted over it is also surprisingly delightful.

Any other simple tips for making real food taste good? (I think I like soy sauce; how is that best used?)

  1. Soy sauce goes well on a broccoli stir fry too.

  2. This broccoli recipe seems too good to be true:

    And it is.

  3. I second the first comment, but add that if you add chinese greens (eg. bok choi) to the stir-fry, and a clove or two of garlic, you won't be disappointed.

Also, porridge becomes palatable when you cook it with banana slices.

  4. Steamed green beans are good with lime juice and chopped mint. Avocados are delicious when mashed up, spread on toast, and sprinkled with salt and pepper. You can thicken most liquids and stocks into a tasty sauce by adding a flour-and-water paste and simmering. (If you do this with milk, you'll get something that greatly enhances Brussels sprouts.)

  5. Soy sauce plus peanut butter = yum.

  6. Broccoli was always nice... But anyway:

If you want a quick easy and lazy meal, Rice with Soy sauce and a bit of butter/Margarine stirred through is surprisingly pleasant.

Soy sauce can also be used to make brussel sprouts yummy. First boil the sprouts as per usual then stir fry with a bit of soy sauce.
